Button Rock Preserve closure - Oct. 6, 2026 - City of Longmont Skip to main content

UPDATE 10/7/2026: Boulder County Sheriff’s Office has given the “all clear” for the Dry Creek Fire and indicated that normal activities may resume. As a result, the temporary closure at Button Rock Preserve (described below) has been lifted and normal operations will resume.

The City of Longmont has temporarily closed Button Rock Preserve due to the proximity of the Dry Creek Fire burning just west of the preserve. The closure is a precautionary measure to protect visitors as fire conditions continue to evolve. City staff will continue to monitor the fire and conditions in and around the preserve. Button Rock Preserve will reopen when conditions allow, and it is safe for visitors to return.

This news release will be updated when the preserve reopens.

Dry Creek Fire

The Dry Creek Fire remains approximately six acres, according to the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests. Hand crews are establishing fire lines directly along the fire’s edge and have been effective in slowing its forward progress. Aircraft are supporting firefighters along portions of the active fire edge where containment lines have not yet been established, using targeted retardant and water drops.
