Civic Center Construction Notice

Noisy work will continue on the west plaza level. Activities include sawcutting, jackhammering, drilling, etc. Expect heavy noise work through the first week of July with intermittent noise for the duration of the project.

The sidewalk and some parking in front of the building on Kimbark Street will be closed. Crews will be removing trees and bushes, demolition of the stairs, and performing soil excavation to prepare for garage beam placement. This closure will be in effect through late July.

There will be no work on Wednesday, July 4, in honor of the Independence Day holiday.

Throughout the construction phase, entrance into the building can be accessed via the south entrance located on 3rd Avenue, east entrance located on Emery Street, or the north entrance. The north entrance to the Civic Center provides ADA accessibility.

PROJECT BACKGROUND

The $5 million parking garage renovation project is needed to update the failing existing post tension supports of the structure, which were installed when the garage was built in 1975. To bring the building to code standards, new external post tension supports will be installed and new concrete overlay will be applied. Although the garage is in need of structural repairs, the offices located above the garage are safely supported. Offices located above the garage include: City Manager’s office, Finance and Utility Billing office, Human Resources, Risk Management, Neighborhood Resources, and CDBG.
