Cleaning Out – Sustainably! (More Power to You blog)

Usually, this blog focuses on the electrical world and how it affects Longmont. But this time, we have a guest star with a different sort of power – namely, the power to get rid of some hard-to-remove junk. Pile of lumber, doors and other remodeling clutter sitting near a path and next to greenery

Almost everyone has stuff that they just don’t know what to do with. Maybe it’s some leftover materials from that great do-it-yourself project last spring. Maybe it’s paints or pesticides that you’d love to dispose of if you could figure out how. Well, Longmont has an answer. Two answers, in fact:

  • Resource Central makes Mondays marvelous by coming through Longmont each week to pick up reusable items like lumber, cabinetry, doors, windows, sinks, tile, select appliances and non-upholstered furniture. That keeps it all out of the landfill, out of your home and gives it a second life somewhere else. (And yes, it’s tax-deductible!) Find out more at the Resource Central website.
  • A hazardous waste pickup is available from Boulder County for older adults and people who need transportation assistance, so that they can get rid of materials like paints, chemicals, pesticides, and batteries. Schedule a free pickup by calling 720-564-2251 or emailing hazmatall@bouldercounty.org. (And if you don’t need transportation assistance, remember that you can also take your hazardous waste to the Hazardous Materials Management Facility in Boulder year-round – follow the link for their address and operating hours.)

Check them out. And then clean it out. We’re glad to help you get these materials upcycled and safely collected.

And when you’re done, it’ll feel powerfully good. Â
