Coffman Street Fully Open from 6th Avenue to 9th Avenue
The Coffman Street Mobility Improvements Project hit a major milestone last week with the full opening of Coffman Street between 6th Avenue and 9th Avenue. While there is still work to be done, vehicles and pedestrians are able to travel in both directions on Coffman Street in these blocks.
The project has constructed new concrete sidewalks, bike lanes, pedestrian crosswalks, intersection signals and more. Final paving, line painting, landscaping and repairs are still needed but the impacts to travelers will be minimal or short-term in this segment. On-street parking is also available in these blocks and will remain open with just intermittent closures for final construction work.
Phase 2 of the project started in February with construction focused on the east side of Coffman Street between 2nd Avenue and 6th Avenue. There is currently a full closure of Coffman Street between 5th Avenue, just north of The Spoke Parking Garage, to 6th Avenue. Through-traffic will not be allowed in this block of Coffman Street until construction is completed at the end of May or early June.
The northbound lanes of Coffman Street remain closed between 2nd Avenue and 6th Avenue. Parking on the east side of Coffman Street is prohibited in these blocks. However, access to all public parking lots and businesses along Coffman Street remains open.
Construction is expected to move from the east side of Coffman Street to the west side later this spring. At that time, the southbound lanes of Coffman Street will be closed between 2nd Avenue and 6th Avenue. Phase 2 of construction is expected to be completed by the end of the year with final paving and landscaping in early 2026.
