Construction begins on the St. Vrain Greenway – Phase 13: Eastern Extension

The City of Longmont has contracted Myers and Sons Construction to build the Phase 13 extension of the St. Vrain Greenway Trail. Phase 13 will add more than 2 miles to the St. Vrain Greenway Trail and offer views of Longmont’s open space and the St. Vrain Creek area, where it meets Boulder Creek. Construction is scheduled to begin Jan. 5, 2026 and is expected to be finished in April 2027.

The project will include two pedestrian bridges: one north of Colorado Highway 119 over St. Vrain Creek and another south of the highway overlooking St. Vrain Creek. A concrete underpass will be built under the highway to help pedestrians and bicyclists cross safely.

Phase 13 of work is one of the final two phases needed to complete the St. Vrain Greenway Trail, originally envisioned in the 1993 St. Vrain River Greenway Master Plan. This extension will eventually connect to the Weld Legacy Trail east of I-25 located in the Town of Firestone. The St. Vrain Greenway is also part of the statewide Colorado Front Range Trail, which is planned to run from Wyoming to New Mexico.

The project is partially funded by the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG) Multimodal Options Funds Transportation Improvement Program (MMOF TIP) grant, which is administered by the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT).

Beginning Tuesday, December 23, a portion of the Sandstone Ranch Parking Area near the Visitors Center will be closed for the duration of the project. Access to the trails and the Visitors Center will remain open. Additional parking is available at the Visitors Center and the Sandstone Soccer Complex.
