Council Calls on Community to Fill Vacant Council Seat

On Tuesday, December 10, 2024, the members of the Longmont City Council discussed their plans for replacing outgoing Ward 2 Councilmember Marcia Martin, who will vacate her seat effective December 31, 2024.

Longmont residents are invited to apply to fill the vacant seat with the remaining Councilmembers selecting Councilmember Martin’s replacement. The application process will start on December 16, 2024, and will close on January 8, 2025. The Open Forum previously scheduled for January 21, 2025 will be replaced with an interview session of candidates and the appointment of a selected candidate. That new appointee, exclusively from Ward 2, will be sworn in on January 28, 2025.

Interested candidates who currently reside in Ward 2 may apply online at bit.ly/ward-2-application or request a paper application from the City Clerk’s Office at The Longmont Civic Center (350 Kimbark St.). Ward 2 boundaries can be found at bit.ly/longmont-wards.

To be considered, candidates will need to submit an application, provide a letter of interest and meet the following qualifications:

  • Must be a citizen of the United States
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Must be a qualified elector for at least one year
  • Must reside within Ward 2
  • Must have resided in the City of Longmont for one-year immediately preceding the appointment date
