Francis Street Chip Seal July 6-15 - City of Longmont Skip to main content

In conjunction with the City of Longmont’s Pavement Management Program, crews will begin applying chip seal treatment Monday, July 6 through Wednesday July 15, on Francis Street between 21st Avenue and Calkins Avenue.

Chip seal work consists of applying asphalt to a road surface followed by a layer of chips that create a new surface on top of the road. During construction, there may be instances where motorists encounter loose chip material. Please drive slowly and cautiously during this interim phase. The days following the chip application, loose chips are removed and a sealant designed to lock the chips in place will be applied. This work is followed by roadway striping operations.

What to Expect

  • Temporary traffic delays and lane restrictions during construction, both directions of travel will be maintained throughout construction.
  • Loose gravel will be present on the roadway immediately following the chip seal application. Please reduce your speed and use caution.
  • On-street parking restrictions may be in effect during construction activities. Please follow all posted signs and directions from construction personnel.
  • Access to homes and businesses will be maintained whenever possible; however, brief delays may occur during active work.

Chip seal operations are part of the City’s Pavement Management Program. The process is intended to extend the lifespan of the roadway and postpone larger reconstruction efforts that would require more expensive work and longer travel restrictions. This program is funded by the City’s three-quarter-cent Street Fund Sales and Use Tax.

Thank You

The City of Longmont appreciates your patience and cooperation while we complete this important pavement preservation project. These improvements will help extend the life of Francis Street and provide a smoother, longer-lasting roadway for the community.
