Helping Neighbors COPE (More Power to You blog)
Longmont has a great history of neighbors helping neighbors. During blizzards. During floods. Even during a worldwide pandemic.
And when a neighbor in a really tight spot needs help with a utility bill … well, once again, there’s an opportunity for everyone to help out.
It’s called COPE, short for Citizens’ Option to Provide Energy. And in an emergency, it can be a lifeline. When a resident has a past-due utility bill and has exhausted all other resources, COPE can help them pay it.
How does this work? Well, ultimately because of you. The program is a partnership between the City and the OUR Center, but all of the funding comes from residents. Some give just once. Some give a little bit every month by adding it to their own utility bill. All of it gets used to help.
And just like picking up a snow shovel on a bitter winter’s day, it makes a difference.
You can find out more about how to help at the City’s COPE webpage. And if you can, reach out that helping hand yet again.
Because when neighbors help neighbors, everyone gets stronger.
