Library Hold Pickup Lockers Bring Local Art and Convenience to Longmont

The Longmont Public Library has made it easier than ever to pick up holds with two hold pickup lockers, now open for public use at Lashley Street Station (1200 Lashley St.) and Ascent at Hover Crossing (2225 18th Ave.).

“The two new library lockers increase access by providing a convenient way to pick up library materials on your own schedule,” said Julia Jacobs, Acting Library Director. “It’s a great opportunity for our Library to connect with users beyond our physical location. Now, people can pick up holds at three locations around town!”

Both lockers are wrapped with original art by Grace Gutierrez. Grace is a former Library employee who now pursues her art full time, making this project a meaningful full-circle moment. “It means so much to me to be able to create something for the Library and the City of Longmont that increases accessibility for the community.”

Her work is inspired by Mexican folk art and incorporates themes of community, culture, and belonging. Her Library collage features Colorado-inspired wildlife, blue skies, sunflowers, and a historic photograph of Library Hall, the original Longmont Public Library building and the home of Colorado’s first permanent free public library.

Grace’s art also can be found on Special Edition Library cards and the Library’s van, which is used primarily to transport books to and from the lockers and support citywide Library outreach initiatives.

How to use the pickup lockers:

Place a hold by accessing the Library’s online catalog from any computer, inside or outside the Library. Enter your library card number and PIN. Your PIN is the last four digits of your phone number.
Select a locker location from the list of pickup locations.
Click “Submit.”
When your items are ready, you will be notified.
Go to the locker, scan your library card or key in your card number at the touch keypad, and the door (or doors) will open automatically for you.
Remove your items and close the door(s).
Your Library items will be checked out automatically when the locker door(s) close.
