Longmont Community Forum to Discuss Marijuana Home Grow Regulations

The City of Longmont will hold a community forum to discuss options for regulating the growing of marijuana for personal use on Saturday, October 22, 10 am, at the OUR Center, 220 Collyer Street.

The forum begins immediately following the Coffee with Council meeting scheduled at 9 am. Coffee with Council is a monthly meeting hosted by two members of the Longmont City Council from 9 to 10 am at various locations throughout the city. At Coffee with Council, members of the Longmont community can talk informally on any topic of their choice.

At the community forum, the City will provide information about the proposed home grow regulations and will gather feedback from the community about this proposal. City Council is looking for feedback about plant limits and locations for growing, and to hear other items that members of the community are interested in discussing.

The City of Longmont is considering limitations on the number of marijuana plants allowed in residences. Specifically, the City is considering the following:

1.) Marijuana growing must be contained within a secured primary residence
        a. No outdoor growing
        b. No access to the plants by persons under 21 within the residence
2.) Residences can contain no more than six plants per residence
3.) Marijuana smell strong enough  to be detected by persons from the adjoining property line is prohibited

In addition, the City is currently conducting an anonymous survey to gather feedback on whether people are currently growing in their homes and the needs of medical users as it relates to the number of plants they are growing to treat their medical condition(s). The survey can be completed on line through October 16, 2016 at http://bit.ly/marijuana-survey.

Information collected from the survey and this community discussion will be shared with Council during the ongoing discussions Council is having about this topic. If you have questions or want to share information, but can’t attend the meeting on the 22nd, please contact
