Longmont Explorer’s take top honors.

The Longmont Police Explorer Post 67 (youth age 14-21) participated in the L.E.E.P.A.A.C conference in Gunnison Colorado the week of July 13-18. A total of 200 Explorers from 27 Explorer posts throughout Colorado, Oklahoma, and Arizona took part in the conference. The top three scholarships were awarded to members of the Longmont Police Explorer Post. Katie Schultz was awarded a $1,000.00 scholarship, Alex Cunningham was awarded a $1,500.00 scholarship, and Rachel Mains was awarded a $2,000.00 scholarship.

The Explorers competed in individual competitions (crisis intervention, night time traffic stops, obstacle course, and DUI investigation) and team competitions (incident command system, death investigation, suspicious incident, high-risk entry, and high risk car stops).

Explorer Rachel Manis was part of the interagency explorer team that received fourth place in the death investigation competition. The Longmont Police Explorers took second place in the night time tactical competition. The team consisted of Katie Schultz, Rachel Manis, Anna Sanger, and Jack Pease.

The tactical competition challenged the explorers to develop and implement a response to a tactical situation in two minutes. They were then judged on officer safety, teamwork, communication and planning as they locate and apprehend a suspect in an office building.

We are very proud of our Police Explorers and our police officers that are their Explorer advisors. These explorers are hard-working young adults with strong values who have a commitment to our community and strong work ethic.
