Longmont Marks 155 Years as Colorado Celebrates its 150th
LONGMONT, Colo. — In 2026, Longmont will mark 155 years since its founding. The anniversary coincides with two other significant milestones: Colorado’s 150th anniversary of statehood and the United States’ 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. To mark the occasion, Longmont is launching a year-long celebration of the people, places and moments that have shaped the community.
Throughout the year, the City will share historical photos and stories from Longmont’s past focused on monthly themes. This content will include columns from Longmont Museum Director Erik Mason and a video series with Curator of History Elizabeth Beaudoin.
City departments and partners will also host special programs and events throughout the year where residents can learn, connect and celebrate Longmont’s history together. A full list of events is available on the City’s calendar at LongmontColorado.gov/CO150.
Residents and visitors can follow along with this historic content on the City’s website at LongmontColorado.gov/CO150, on Facebook (@cityoflongmontco) and Instagram (@longmontcolorado).
Longmont’s celebrations are part of a statewide effort led by the America 250–Colorado 150 Commission, which is coordinating events across the state to honor both Colorado’s 150th anniversary (sesquicentennial) and the nation’s 250th (semiquincentennial). These milestones, called a sesquisemiquincentennial, offer a rare chance to reflect on where we’ve been and look ahead to the future.
