NextLight’s IAP helping 14% more customers than federal program did  

 

LONGMONT, CO – More households in need are finding help from Longmont’s community-owned NextLight fiber internet service and its locally-funded Internet Assistance Program than ever before.

 

NextLight originally announced the IAP in April 2024, offering a $25/month discount to income-qualifying customers. Those customers had previously been enrolled in the federal Affordable Connectivity Program, which was about to close down for lack of funding.

 

At the time, 906 NextLight customers had been getting the federal discount. Now, as of April 2025, NextLight’s own assistance program is helping 1,034 customers – a 14 percent increase in one year.

 

“For families across Longmont, having a high-speed internet connection isn’t optional – it’s vital,” said Valerie Dodd, NextLight’s executive director. “We want our NextLight community to know that when times get challenging, we can help them stay connected so that they can continue to work, study and thrive.”

 

Residential customers can apply online for the Internet Assistance Program at https://mynextlight.com/residential/internet-assistance-program/ or by calling NextLight at 303-774-4494. The program is open to current NextLight customers and new subscribers.

 

The discount mirrors a $25 benefit that NextLight offered at the start of the pandemic in 2020, before the federal government began to offer the ACP and its predecessor, the Emergency Broadband Benefit. Qualifying customers can receive NextLight’s 100-megabit connection for $14.95/month or its high-speed gigabit connection for $44.95/month.

 

Nationwide, many internet providers saw customers drop service entirely after the ACP ended. NextLight, meanwhile has continued to grow. In February, it reported that it had over 28,000 subscribers, meaning that about two-thirds of Longmont’s homes and businesses had chosen NextLight for their internet service.

LONGMONT, CO – Más que nunca, más hogares en necesidad encuentran ayuda en el servicio de Internet de fibra NextLight, propiedad de la comunidad de Longmont, y en su Programa de Asistencia de Internet financiado localmente.  

 

NextLight anunció originalmente el Programa de Asistencia de Internet en abril de 2024, ofreciendo un descuento de $25 al mes a clientes con ingresos que calificaban. Estos clientes ya estaban inscritos en el Programa Federal de Conectividad Asequible, que estaba a punto de cerrar por falta de fondos.  

 

En abril de 2024, 906 clientes de NextLight recibían el descuento federal. Actualmente, desde abril de 2025, el programa de asistencia de NextLight ayuda a 1034 clientes, lo que representa un aumento del 14 % en un año.

El descuento es similar al beneficio de $25 que NextLight ofreció al inicio de la pandemia en 2020, antes de que el gobierno federal comenzara a ofrecer el ACP y su predecesor, el Beneficio de Banda Ancha de Emergencia. Los clientes que califiquen pueden recibir la conexión de 100 megabits de NextLight por $14.95 al mes o su conexión de alta velocidad de gigabits por $44.95 al mes.  

 

A nivel nacional, muchos proveedores de internet vieron cómo sus clientes cancelaban el servicio por completo tras la finalización del Programa de Conectividad Asequible. NextLight, por su parte, ha seguido creciendo.
