Phase Two Construction of the Coffman Street Mobility Improvements Project Starting the Week of February 3
Starting Monday, February 3, the City of Longmont and contractor Native Sun Construction will begin phase two construction of the Coffman Street Mobility Improvements Project between 6th Avenue and 2nd Avenue. This follows work currently being completed on phase one between 9th Avenue and 6th Avenue. Phase one is expected to be completed by the end of April, weather permitting. Phase two is expected to be completed in the spring of 2026.
This milestone marks completion of the first third of the two-year project to transform Coffman Street into a multi-modal corridor for buses, vehicles, bicyclists and pedestrians. The project will accommodate Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and new separated bicycle lanes with a future connection to the planned 1st and Main Transit Station.
- Construction will overlap slightly with phase one and start on the east side of Coffman Street between 6th Avenue and 4th Avenue.
- Northbound Coffman Street will close from The Spoke on Coffman parking garage to 4th Avenue and then close in consecutive blocks to 2nd Avenue as construction moves south. Southbound Coffman Street will remain open during this work.
- There will be several weeks when the closure of northbound Coffman Street will extend from 2nd Avenue to 9th Avenue until phase one is complete.
- Later this summer, construction will move to the west side of Coffman Street between 6th Avenue and 2nd Avenue and traffic will flip to one-way in the northbound lane.
- On-street parking on both sides of Coffman Street will be prohibited in the blocks under construction.
- Access to businesses will be maintained at all times with minor delays for concrete work directly in front of driveways or doorways.
- Access to the parking garage will be from southbound Coffman Street only for approximately three months. The northbound lane will be closed.
- The entrance to the parking garage will be one-lane only for approximately two weeks. Vehicles entering and exiting the garage will need to yield to oncoming vehicles.
- The traffic signal at the intersection of Coffman Street and 5th Avenue will be permanently removed.
- Temporary flashing stop signs will be installed on 5th Avenue until permanent stop signs are installed at the end of the project.
- Vehicles travelling north and south on Coffman Street will continue through 5th Avenue without stopping.
Construction hours are Monday – Friday from 7 am – 6 pm with some work on Saturdays, as necessary. Check the project website at for updates on the status of construction and potential traffic impacts. Additional information about the project can be found on the interactive StoryMap.
This project is one of several developments in the Downtown Longmont area which are detailed on the Downtown Longmont Projects webpage. We encourage the public to support businesses along Coffman Street and adjacent blocks throughout construction.
