Public Safety Seeking Witnesses to Accident

On Monday 07/24/2017 at about 12 noon, Fermin Alvarez was driving a 2003 Kenworth cement mixer westbound on Ken Pratt Blvd just east of the intersection with S. Martin St. At about the same time Dawn Keith was driving a 2003 Toyota Camry eastbound on Ken Pratt Blvd, just west of the intersection with S. Martin St. The Camry was in the process of turning left to northbound S. Martin St. Both vehicles collided in the intersection. The Camry spun 180 degrees as a result of the impact, and came to rest facing south east on the median on S. Martin Street, immediately north of the intersection. After the collision, the cement mixer continued westbound, colliding with the signal light pole which was located on the northwest corner of the intersection. This pole was severed by the impact, causing the traffic signal light mast arm and supporting pole to fall on the cement truck. This wreckage was blocking all the westbound lanes of Ken Pratt Blvd. The pole and signal light assembly were determined to be unusable. Crews worked Monday afternoon and overnight, removing the wreckage and installing temporary traffic signals, while replacement signals are being obtained.

Drugs, alcohol, and speed are not suspected to be contributors to this crash. This crash investigation remains under investigation by the Longmont Police Traffic Unit. We are currently seeking additional witness information. Witnesses who saw this crash while it was happening are asked to call the Longmont PD Traffic Hot Line at (303) 651-8849.
