Roosevelt Park Grand Opening: Saturday, May 16

The completion of the Roosevelt Park Improvement Project will be celebrated at Roosevelt Park on Saturday, May 16, from 11 am to 1 pm. The event will take place in the southwest end of the park, west of the Longmont Senior Center at 910 Longs Peak Avenue.

Additions include both a new adult fitness course and a new playground. The adult fitness course includes eight pieces of equipment to target varying abilities and fitness objectives. The playground has undergone a full replacement to alleviate safety concerns, expand play options and better utilize the space. ADA accessibility and playability improvements included Poured-in-Place surfacing, ADA specific equipment and two ADA parking spaces adjacent to the playground on Bross Street.

As part of the celebration, City officials will speak, including Parks representatives who will highlight the playground, fitness area and future Parks development plans. Staff will also distribute a handout illustrating one of many possible fitness circuits on the new adult fitness equipment.

Activities for kids will include a “Try Me” Challenge, where kids will pick a card that depicts an activity they need to complete on the new play equipment. (Cards will include instructions like “go down backwards” and “cross without touching the ground,” etc.) There will also be light snacks and a “Love My Playground” photo booth where guests are invited to use their own phones to take and post pictures.

“We’re excited to share these improvements with community members,” said Trish Kurnik, senior project manager with the City of Longmont. “Together they offer fitness opportunities for community members and guests of all ages.”

Everyone is welcome to join in the festivities and explore the park’s new and improved features.
