Sacred Circle: The Meaning of a Powwow Library Event

LONGMONT, Colo. — What happens at a powwow? What do the dances mean? Why are certain songs and traditions important? Can anyone take part?

 

The Longmont Public Library invites the community to explore these questions at Sacred Circle: The Meaning of Powwow, a free, family-friendly event from 2 to 4 pm Friday, Nov. 20.

 

Come experience a powwow and learn about the traditions and stories behind it. The program will include trivia, a drum circle and traditional dancing. Participants will also learn about different dance styles, honor songs and special dances. The program welcomes questions and encourages respectful learning.

 

In honor of Native American Heritage Month, Sacred Circle is a chance to listen, learn and connect with Native voices, discover the meaning behind powwow traditions and celebrate the Indigenous cultures that are a thriving part of our Colorado community.

 

Sacred Circle is presented by the Longmont Public Library with support from the Denver Indian Family Resource Center, Children, Youth & Families.

  • Longmont Public Library, 355 Emery St., in the Library Meeting Rooms
  • All ages and families are welcome
  • Free
  • Attendees are encouraged to arrive 15 minutes early to ensure a seat
