Seasonal Tips From LPC #1: Keep the holidays happy for your pedestal light
The holiday lights of Longmont’s homes help make the season merry and fun. But problems can result when those decorations start to mix with the pedestal lights, the small lamp posts that hold the electric meter for more than a quarter of the city’s homes. Please remember:
- Never cover the pedestal light’s photocell, a small circle near the top of the pole. This will cause the light to stay on in the daytime.
- Help out your meter reader by not covering the meter window.
- Wrapping decorations around the body of the pedestal light makes it difficult to open the door for repairs or maintenance.
- Please don’t replace the lamp’s LED bulb with a tinted one. These bulbs are chosen for long life and effective illumination of the neighborhood.
- Older pedestal lights have outlets, which are not up to code. All of these should have a locked or sealed flap protecting them; please do not open this or use the outlets.
