Staff shortages force reduced pool and swim beach hours
Staff shortages force reduced pool and swim beach hours
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Due to the ongoing labor shortage in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, Longmont Recreation will reduce pool and Union Reservoir swim beach hours this summer. Kanemoto and Roosevelt Activity Pools will remain shuttered for the summer season. New pool and swim beach hours will go into effect on Friday, May 27, 2022.
Longmont Recreation is actively recruiting for several pool managers and senior lifeguards, and recently received council approval to raise entry level pay to $15.50/hr to be competitive in the current labor market. Other incentives include free certification training, discount recreation passes, flexible schedules, and opportunities for recurring summer employment and career advancement within Longmont Recreation.
“We know we’re not alone and that this is a trend for community pools across the country. Aurora, Englewood, Broomfield, and Boulder all announced reduced pool hours this year, as well,” said Sara Taylor, an aquatics supervisor with Longmont Recreation. A further five pool managers and at least four more senior lifeguards would be required to maintain the safety of patrons at the original 2022 hours. If additional staff members can be hired, pool facilities and swim beach hours will be reevaluated for expansion.
To apply for a job in aquatics, visit the online jobs portal at www.longmontcolorado.gov/jobs or stop by the next Longmont Recreation job fair coming up on Thursday, June 2, 2022 from 12-1:30 pm at the Longmont Recreation Center on Quail Road. The next FREE four-day lifeguard certification class begins May 27, 2022 from 8am-4pm Friday-Monday.
