Stepping into the Survey

Pink summer rosesI love to walk around Longmont. On a summer day, I’ve got a lot of company. Plenty of people love to see the blue skies, the leaf-filled trees, the dogs testing just how far their leashes can reach, and so on.

The same holds true for a casual stroll in November, right?

OK, you can stop laughing now.

A Longmont walk in November is, of course, a different animal. Not long ago, it meant a chill in the air, snow on the ground, and a lot less company Frozen Leaveson the sidewalk. But if you assumed that “Hey, a walk is a walk,” you’d wind up freezing in shorts and a T-shirt before you made it three blocks.

Having the latest information matters.

Which brings me to our survey.

The City of Longmont has launched an internet awareness survey that’s open for participation through Nov. 30. The gist is simple – what do you think of what Longmont has to offer for internet service? We want to see what you know, hear what you think, and learn from what you have to share.

Why is that important? Because the online world is about as changeable as the Colorado seasons, and may be even less predictable. (And that’s saying something when Colorado’s four seasons are 6 a.m., noon, 6 p.m., and midnight!) The options and awareness that Longmont had five years ago when we began NextLight are a different landscape from today. We know the internet is still a vital utility for our city’s homes and businesses, but what do the choices look like?

It makes a world of difference to have information instead of assumptions.  And a better community, too.

So check the survey out. See what you can add to the picture. I promise, it’s not too difficult.

In fact, you might even decide it’s a walk in the park.
