Longmont to Conduct Street Paving Assessments in August

This month, the City of Longmont will initiate a survey of the pavement condition of the 350 miles of asphalt and concrete streets in the City. As part of this work, the City has partnered with IMS Infrastructure Management Services (IMS) to conduct pavement assessments using the IrisPRO Pave system. Read the pavement survey news release.

The IrisPRO Pave system uses specialized technology to collect information about the condition of streets throughout Longmont. The system identifies pavement concerns including cracks, potholes and other surface issues that may need attention.

Information collected will help City staff better understand the overall condition of Longmont’s roadways and support planning for Longmont’s Pavement Management Program. Current pavement data ensures the City prioritizes projects, makes informed decisions and uses public funds responsibly.

Catchy title, right? Join City of Longmont staff for an evening in and along Saint Vrain Creek at Button Rock Preserve to dive into stream biology. Learn how to evaluate biological stream health, collect and identify aquatic macroinvertebrates, and better understand ecosystem function within our local watershed.

Whether you like fly fishing and want to know more about what they eat, want to investigate ecosystem science as a career path, or just want to get outside with an experienced field biologist, this program is a great introduction field course. Registration is required for this free event.

Grandparents Day at Sandstone Ranch

Celebrate Grandparents Day with the Longmont Library Outreach Team on Saturday, Aug. 22 from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm at the Sandstone Ranch House. Enjoy live music, singing, dancing, crafts and intergenerational fun. Bring a blanket and a picnic lunch; water and a treat will be provided. This free event is open to everyone.

Q: What is all the construction across the street from Hotel Longmont?

A: Guests at the rooftop bar of the Longmont Hotel can look south across 3rd Avenue to view two ongoing City construction projects. The Safety and Justice building at 225 Kimbark Street is nearing the completion of a major overhaul. Please note that the lobby will be closed from August 24 to September 8 as construction enters its final phases. For more details, visit the Safety & Justice Center Rehabilitation page.
