Longmont has declared a Climate Emergency
Longmont City Council passed a resolution on October 8, 2019 declaring Longmont’s intent to take immediate and accelerated action to address the climate crisis. The resolution was resident-initiated and approved by unanimous vote. The resolution called for the creation of the Climate Action Task Force, which includes members of the community, City staff, and subject matter experts on energy, buildings, and transportation, among others.
The Task Force is working to complete draft recommendations by April 8, 2020. Recommendations will be reviewed and voted on by City Council. The resolution challenges city government, residents, businesses and community partners to take action to mitigate and adapt to climate changes.
