TCS picked to build Longmont fiber rollout

Longmont, Colorado (July 14, 2014) – Longmont Power & Communications (LPC), the City of  Longmont’s municipal electric and broadband utility, has selected TCS Communications, LLC to begin construction on the city’s new fiber to the premises (FTTP) network. Once complete, the network will be available to every home and business in Longmont, and will provide internet services at speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second. Longmont is the first city in Colorado to deploy this type of municipally owned system.

TCS Communications, LLC is headquartered in Englewood, Colorado and is a leading provider in quality construction and construction management services for the telecommunications industry. Their comprehensive capability for infrastructure services include the placement, splicing, and maintenance of aerial and underground fiber optic, copper, or coaxial cable networks. TCS was founded in 1978 in Houston, Texas and has successfully completed numerous large scale build/rebuild projects for customers across the United States.

“We believe we have contracted with the best construction partner for the city,” said Tom Roiniotis, General Manager of Longmont Power & Communications. “The selection process was rigorous, but we set a high bar with regards to quality of work, customer service, and timeline. This project has been long awaited throughout Longmont. We want to make sure it is done efficiently; we want to make sure it is done right.”

The network will be built in six phases. Phase 1 construction will begin in August of 2014. TCS will deploy vehicles, equipment, and personnel. Construction will take place in public right of ways and private property from 7am to 6 pm on weekdays and 8 am to 5 pm on Saturdays. Workers will not be entering homes or business buildings. They will have City of Longmont photo ID badges and will provide printed information explaining the construction in the area along with customer service contact information should property owners have any related questions. As the build-out progresses, LPC will announce updates regarding service availability and the installation process through its website, local media, and direct mail communications.
