Ice breaking tree branch

The Branch Office

When the snow comes down, the calls come in. Ice breaking tree branch

That’s part of life at an electric utility, especially when the wet, heavy snow of a Front Range spring starts to make itself at home on the trees. The snow piles up, the branches come down, and if a line is nearby, the power can go out.

That’s when our crews move into high gear.

And it’s also when we’re reminded just how awesome our customers really are.

During last week’s blizzard, we got around 200 calls reporting electric outages. That’s enough by itself to give the electric crews a busy day and night (though still far less than the 40,000 customers in our territory). But those weren’t the only calls.

Many of the people who contacted us still had power. Instead of calling outages in, they were calling them off – namely, by warning us of branches and trees that had landed on the lines, so we could get them taken care of promptly.

We love that.

Yes, we monitor the electric system ourselves so that we can respond to situations quickly, which is one reason why we’ve been repeatedly recognized for reliability.  But when you add in the eyes and ears of our customers – you!  – that’s still more information that helps us make the system even better.

So thank you so much! And keep up the good work.

When you see a line that’s down or tree-laden, keep yourself a safe distance away and then call us at 303-651-8386.

When you see a streetlight that’s out, give us a call or report it online so that we can light it up.

And of course, if you experience an outage – whether it’s from extreme storms or kamikaze squirrels – call us.

We’re always happy to help. And we’re even happier to have partners like you.

That helps us all stay plugged in.

The Employment Opportunities, Vendor and Employee Self Service portal applications will be down for system maintenance starting Thursday, Dec. 26, 2024 at 6 pm through Friday, Dec. 27, 2024 at noon. We apologize in advance for this inconvenience.
