Kicking off the season are two very special January events and a fun, new program for kids!

This January: Information Navigation, Be Ready Longmont, and Stay & Play Sessions

On Thursday, Jan. 9 we bring you an informative presentation called Information Navigation. Join your Longmont Librarians to learn ways to evaluate what you see and hear in the news, on social media, on the internet, and from your family and friends. We will help you figure out how to tell fact from fiction so that you can sail the information seas with confidence. This program will focus on using internet sources and library materials to find and evaluate information so you can feel confident as you navigate an ever-changing information landscape.

On Wednesday, Jan. 29, get ready for, Be Ready Longmont a disaster preparedness workshop led by the Longmont Office of Emergency Management. This interactive event will leave you more prepared for the unexpected things that can upend our daily lives. Snacks will be provided.

On Monday, January 6th we launch a new ongoing series, Stay & Play. From 10:30-11:00 am (just after Storytimes) on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, our doors are open fpr more quality time and learning in a friendly group setting! These sessions are for birth-4-year-olds and their caregivers. We will provide the toys, sensory experiences, music, and all the room you need to learn through play. Meet new friends and enhance your child’s early literacy learning and development!

Everyone Loves Storytime

The Library’s ever-popular Storytimes will continue to engage young audiences and their grown-ups with storytelling and early literacy activities designed to foster a lifelong love of reading. On Monday, Jan. 6, we welcome back Guest Cellist Katarina M. Pliego for a special Bilingual Storytime during which she will play music, share her picture book and introduce her audience to the wonderful world of cello. Other special storytimes include Family Storytime with Guest Author Kristie Peterson on March 7, Opera Colorado Storytime on March 21, and Ballet Storytime: Cinderella, on April 26.

PEEPS, Free Seeds, Author Talks, & more!

Our beloved PEEPS Diorama Exhibit returns in mid April, as does our popular Gardening Fair and Free Seed Library happening Sunday, Feb 23! This year’s event marks the official 2025 opening of the annual Free Seed Library, offering community members an opportunity to kickstart their spring planting endeavors by choosing up to six seed packets for free!

With the generous support of the Friends of the Longmont Library we are also pleased to host two author talks this season. Help us welcome Jim Tolstrup, author of “Suburbitat: A guide to restoring nature where we work, live, and play” on April 10, and local novelist Laura Pritchett, a local author known for championing the complex and contemporary West and giving voice to the working class, on April 28.
