Celebrate at Festival on Main
Festival on Main celebrates its 15th year with a quinceañera from 6 to 10 pm on Friday, August 28. Enjoy music on multiple stages, dance performances, piñata breaking, a fashion show, street performers, face painting and more! Kids will enjoy bouncy houses, dual slides, and obstacle courses (the bungee trampoline costs $5) while adults visit the food court and beer garden. Admission is free. “Resilient St. Vrain” Open House
An open house for the Resilient St. Vrain project will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 pm on Tuesday, August 25, in the Longmont Civic Center at 350 Kimbark Street. Resilient St. Vrain is an extensive, multiyear undertaking to make the community more resilient for future floods by reducing the size of the floodplain through Longmont while also restoring the valuable community asset of the St. Vrain Greenway. At this event attendees can see preliminary design plans and get updates on the decision-making process, timeline and funding. Community Unity Award Nominations Sought 
The Longmont Multicultural Action Committee is accepting nominations for the 2015 Community Unity Award. This award is presented annually to individuals who show dedication to Longmont, optimism in the ability to achieve an inclusive and diverse community, enthusiasm, a sense of humor, a community vision, and generosity of spirit and heart. Make a Difference on the Youth Council
The Longmont Youth Council is looking for enthusiastic, creative and committed students in grades 8 – 12 who live in Longmont and would like to make a difference in the community. Mayor and City Council Nomination Deadline is Monday, August 24

The Longmont City Clerk’s office is accepting nominations through the end of the day Monday, August 24th for the offices of Mayor and Ward 1, Ward 3 and At-Large City Council seats.  The election for these positions is scheduled for Tuesday, November 3, 2015, and will be conducted as a coordinated election with Boulder and Weld Counties. Candidate nomination petitions and information are available on the City Clerk’s election page or at the City Clerk’s office. 

Work to Begin on Second Phase Focus on South Main
On Monday, August 24, the City of Longmont in conjunction with its contractor, New Design Construction Company will begin work on the Main Street pavement reconstruction project. The project is the second of three components included in Focus on South Main (FOSM), a multi-year effort intended to improve the southeastern gateway to Longmont’s core along Main Street. The goal of this second phase is to address on-going pavement maintenance issues on South Main Street (US 287) from Ken Pratt Boulevard to 3rd Avenue. Throughout the project, aging asphalt pavement will be replaced with new concrete pavement. Recreation Facility Maintenance Closures
Every year, the City’s recreation facilities close for maintenance on systems and equipment. Centennial Pool is currently closed and will reopen Wednesday, August 26. The Longmont Recreation Center will close August 30 and reopen on Labor Day, September 7, with holiday hours from 10 am to 4 pm.
