Longmont Recreation Center Maintenance Closure
The Longmont Recreation Center, 310 Quail Road, will continued to be closed this weekend (Friday, Aug. 27-Sunday, Aug. 29) for annual maintenance on systems and equipment. Please visit the other recreation facilities including Sunset Pool, Centennial Pool and the St. Vrain Memorial Building during the closure. Call 303-651-8404 with questions.
Holiday Schedule for Labor Day
Most City facilities will be closed, Monday, Sept. 6, in observance of the Labor Day holiday. Trash, recycling and compost will be collected one day later than usual throughout the week, and the Waste Diversion Center will be closed on Sept. 6. Some Recreation facilities will be open. Downtown Summer Concert
Music and dancing in the street return to downtown Longmont from 6-9 pm tonight (Aug. 27)! Local favorites “The Long Run” — Colorado’s tribute to The Eagles — will take the stage at 4th and Kimbark for a night of local music, food, drinks, and community fun! In-person Coffee with Council
Longmont City Council will host Coffee with Council from 9 to 10 am on Saturday, Aug. 28, at Hearthstone at Hover Crossing (a Longmont Housing Authority property), 1762 Cook Ct. At this event, you can talk informally with City staff, Council Member Aren Rodriguez and Mayor Brian Bagley on any topic of your choice, and the coffee’s on us! Amazing Insects at Sandstone Ranch
Join Russ Lambert, “The Bug Man,” for a hands-on and interactive talk about the insect and arachnid world at 10:30 am (ages 10 and older) or 12:30 pm (ages 18 and older) Saturday, Aug. 28, at the Sandstone Ranch Visitors & Learning Center, 3001 Sandstone Drive. Learn about the value and importance of these sometimes misunderstood critters and see part of his 600-specimen collection including butterflies, spiders and scorpions. Hwy 119 Bikeway Project Virtual Meeting
Boulder County’s Community Planning & Permitting Department and CDOT invite the public to a virtual meeting presentation for the Highway 119 Bikeway Project from 5:30-7 pm on Monday, Aug. 30. At this virtual public meeting, staff will discuss the conceptual design of the bikeway and potential connections at the north and south ends of the project. Participants will have an opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback on the design concepts at the meeting. The goal of the bikeway is to provide a year-round, safe, direct, accessible, and comfortable bike facility with seamless connections to transit, neighborhoods, businesses, and local walking and bicycling paths. Play Online Trivia with Librarians
“Are You Smarter than a Librarian?” — an interactive, online trivia night program moderated by your Longmont librarians — is back on Monday, Aug. 30, from 7-8:30 p.m. The program series is aimed at adults and older kids and features up to 25 people, teams, or households competing for bragging rights by winning the best of five rounds of play. Discovery Days are Back at the Museum!
With a new theme each week, Discovery Days helps children ages 2 to 6, with the help of their caregivers, cultivate important school-readiness skills, such as language development, attention, concentration, fine-motor, emotional regulation, and play and social abilities through educational, hands-on art activities. No registration needed! The program runs each Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from Sept. 1 through Dec. 10, 2021. Volunteers Needed at ArtWalk
The Longmont Downtown Development Authority (LDDA) and the Firehouse Art Center are looking for community volunteers to help before, during and after the Longmont’s Sesquicentennial (150th) birthday during ArtWalk from 4-8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11. Volunteer positions include kids activities, being captain of a block, helping with art demos, monitoring entry/exit points, supporting vendors and musicians, setting up, and breaking down after the event. Author Talk, Cheese Demo at Longmont Library
Join the Longmont Public Library from 6:30-7:30 pm on Thursday, Sept. 16, for an evening with Kate Johnson, local author and owner of Briargate Farm, as she shares her story of starting her goat farm and cheese-making business in Longmont. This in-person event — held in the Library’s Meeting Rooms, 409 4th Ave. — will feature a cheese-making demonstration, a discussion of her book, “Tiny Goat, Big Cheese! How a little goat launched a thriving cheese business,” and her entrepreneurial foray into starting two successful local businesses from scratch.
