Winter Solstice Storytime at the Library
Celebrate the winter solstice from 7 to 8 pm on Thursday, December 20, at the Library, 409 4th Avenue. This special Bedtime Storytime will be full of winter-themed stories, hot cocoa, and a make-and-take luminary craft to light up the darkest night of the year. Register online at bit.ly/LibStories. City Council Member Bonnie Finley Appointed to NLC Committee
Bonnie Finley has been appointed to the National League of Cities (NLC) 2019 Community and Economic Development federal advocacy committee. This committee has the lead responsibility for developing NLC’s federal policy positions on issues involving housing, community and economic development, land use, recreation and parks, historic preservation and international competitiveness.The NLC is dedicated to helping city leaders build better communities and is considered a resource and advocate for 19,000 cities, towns and villages, representing more than 218 million Americans. Looking for a last minute gift? Consider a gift of wellness and fun with Longmont Recreation & Golf Services. Recreation gift certificates can be purchased in any amount and can be redeemed in person, over the phone, and online for drop-in classes, activity registration, and passes. Keep the Kids Busy During Winter Break
Recreation & Golf Services offers fun athletic and educational classes for children during winter school breaks. Learn what it’s like to be an astronaut, Minecraft with LEGOs, sew, play sports, train to be a babysitter or swim instructor, or spend a supervised day at the Recreation Center, 310 Quail Road. Ring in the New Year with Writing Inspiration
Laura Pritchett, Colorado novelist, essayist, and lover of the natural world, will share the journey of her writing career in two programs at the Library, 409 4th Avenue, on Thursday, January 3. The first, from 5:30 to 6:30 pm, is a writing workshop for writers of all genres and levels. The second, from 7 to 8 pm, is a traditional author talk. Parking Enforcement Needs You!
Parking patrol volunteers help ensure that handicap parking is accessible to people with disabilities and educate others about the importance of handicap parking. Buy Your Rec Pass Before Fees Increase
Admission fees to Longmont Recreation facilities will increase on January 2. Take advantage of 2018 pricing through January 1 when you purchase 20-visit, quarterly or annual passes. Save the Date! City Council Open Forum
The January 15 city council meeting, beginning at 7 pm in the Council Chambers at 350 Kimbark Street, will be an Open Forum for residents to talk for 5 minutes each to council members about any topic on their minds. This is the only agenda item for this meeting; plan to arrive a little early to put your name on the list of speakers.
