Channel 8 Signal Temporarily Disrupted
Viewers of Longmont Comcast Cable Channel 8 may experience some disruptions in service through the beginning of January. The City Council awarded a new service contract to Longmont Public Media replacing the Longmont Cable Trust. During this transition period, programming will be interrupted and you may see a black screen or a “technical difficulties” message. We thank you for your patience while the new public access provider establishes its broadcast signal.

Christmas Holiday Schedules

Longmont city government observes the Christmas holiday on Wednesday, December 25. All City facilities will be closed. On Tuesday, December 24, the Longmont Ice Pavilion will close at 4 pm, and all other Recreation facilities will close at 3 pm. Wednesday and Thursday trash, recycling and composting will be collected one day later than usual.

Special Waste Diversion Center Hours
The Waste Diversion Center at 140 Martin Street will be closed to drop-offs that require entry through the gate, including block Styrofoam and holiday trees, on these days: Monday, December 23, through Thursday, December 26; and Monday, December 30, through Thursday, January 2. The single-stream recyclables area in the front of the center will remain open for you to drop off items such as paper and cardboard, containers and plastics, and holiday lights and wrapping paper.

Keep Children Busy During Winter Break
Recreation & Golf Services offers a variety of classes and activities during winter school break. Youth can participate in basketball and volleyball camps, learn to climb or ice skate, train to be a lifeguard or water safety instructor, or spend a supervised day at the Recreation Center, 310 Quail Road. Learn more at LongmontColorado.gov/rec or call 303-651-8404.

Fun for Kids This Week at the Library
Challenge your kids to read, watch, and listen to new things over Winter Break and win prizes from the Library in this year’s Winter Break Reading Bingo Game! Stop by the Children’s and Teens’ desk to pick up a bingo card or visit LongmontColorado.gov/library and print one at home. Turn in a completed bingo card by January 6 for a special prize. The Library also has purchased a new Nintendo Switch gaming system for tween and teen patrons. To celebrate, students in 6th through 12th grades are invited to a Nintendo Switch Launch Party from 1 to 5 pm on Monday, December 23, at the Library, 409 4th Avenue. Partygoers will sample the new system, meet other gamers, and enjoy some snacks at this drop-in event during the school break. No registration is required for either program.

Recycle Your Holiday Tree …
From December 26 through January 5, the City of Longmont provides four tree drop-off locations in addition to the Waste Diversion Center (see hours above). Please remove all decorations and light strands, and take your tree to: Roosevelt Park – parking lot on the south side of 8th Avenue, Garden Acres Park – parking lot at 18th Avenue and Tulip Street, Kanemoto Park – parking lot off S. Pratt Parkway at S. Coffman Street, or Centennial Park – parking lot at Alpine Street and Verdant Circle. For more information visit bit.ly/recycle-the-holidays or call 303-651-8416.

… Then Recycle Everything Else!
You can recycle more holiday items than just your tree. From December 26 through January 5, the Waste Diversion Center at 140 Martin Street accepts wrapping paper, which is not accepted in your curbside container. (No metallic paper, ribbons, bows, ornaments, tissue paper, or paper covered in tape.) You also can recycle your old holiday lights at the Waste Diversion Center through January 5. Wrap light strands into a ball and drop them in the appropriate container. Please take identification and your most recent City utility bill to show that you’re a City waste services customer.
