Joni Marsh Named Longmont Assistant City Manager
Longmont City Manager Harold Dominguez has named current Director of Planning and Development Joni Marsh as Assistant City Manager. Marsh, who joined the City of Longmont in 2001 as a planner, replaces former Assistant City Manager Shawn Lewis, who accepted a City Manager position in Englewood in June. Marsh will oversee redevelopment and economic development, transportation planning, the Longmont municipal airport, planning, facilities, building services, and application support. New Year’s Holiday Schedules
Longmont city government observes the New Year holiday on Wednesday, January 1. Most City facilities will be CLOSED. (See special recreation class below.) Wednesday and Thursday trash, recycling and composting will be collected one day later than normal.

New Year’s Day Zumba Party
Join Recreation fitness staff for fitness, fun and prizes at the 9th annual Zumba Party from 1 to 2:30 pm on Wednesday, January 1, at the Longmont Recreation Center, 310 Quail Road. This is for all ages –children must be supervised – and the cost is $5 per person (passes not accepted). No registration needed, and doors open at 12:40 pm. The remainder of the building is closed on New Year’s Day.

Utility Rate Adjustments
New electric, water and wastewater rates go into effect January 1, 2020,and will be reflected on your February utility bill. For a typical household, the new rates will mean an additional $7.41 per month in electric, water and wastewater costs. Money generated from utility fees and charges is used to keep up with the costs of providing service. For details about rates visit LongmontColorado.gov/RateChanges or call 303-651-8664.

Channel 8 Signal Temporarily Disrupted
Viewers of Longmont Comcast Cable Channel 8 may experience some disruptions in service through the beginning of January. The City Council awarded a new contract to Longmont Public Media, replacing the Longmont Cable Trust. During the transition, programming will be interrupted, and you may see a black screen or a “technical difficulties” message. Thank you for your patience while the new provider establishes its broadcast signal.

Free Denver Nuggets Skills Challenge
Basketball fans ages 6 to 13 (as of April 30, 2020) can exhibit their skills at the free Denver Nuggets Skills Challenge at 1 pm on Saturday, January 4, at the Longmont Recreation Center, 310 Quail Road. Boys and girls compete in separate divisions in dribbling, passing and shooting. Top scorers in each age group advance to a sectional competition with a chance to compete at the state final in Denver. Entry forms are available 30 minutes prior to the competition. Register for Teen Takeover at the Library
Get out of the cold and into the Library for this after-hours program for 6th through 12th graders. The quarterly “Teen Takeover Saturday” will be held from 6 to 9 pm on Saturday, January 11, and includes games and watching cartoons. Know a Teen Interested in Police Work?
The Longmont Police Department is accepting applications for the Police Explorer Program. Find details at LongmontColorado.gov (search “Explorers”). The application deadline is 5 pm on Friday, January 10. Interviews will be held on Saturday, February 1, and applicants who pass will attend orientation on Saturday, February 15.
