Quiet Zones Public Workshop and Survey
The public is invited to contribute comments about the implementation of railroad Quiet Zones at crossings throughout Longmont. A public, drop-in workshop will be held from 5 to 7 pm on Wednesday, February 6, at the City’s Sunset Campus, 7 S. Sunset Street. Or, provide feedback through an online survey on the project web page at bit.ly/rr-quiet-zones.
Shred Your Private Documents for Free
Take boxed or bagged papers to be shredded to the Waste Diversion Center at 140 Martin Street between 9 am and 2 pm on Saturday, February 2. This is for residential documents only; no business documents accepted. Please also take ID and a copy of your most recent Longmont utility bill. It’s Time for Winter Bike to Work Day
Bundle up and get on your bicycle for Winter Bike to Work Day on Friday, February 8. Between 7 and 9 am enjoy a free breakfast at the Development Services Center, 385 Kimbark Street. If you bike to work – or anywhere in the dark winter months – be sure that you have proper bike lights on the front and back, wear highly visible clothing, dress in layers, and wear a helmet.
“Authors We Love” Open House
Meet dozens of Colorado authors at the “Authors We Love Open House” from 1 to 3:30 pm on Saturday, February 9 at the Library, 409 4th Avenue. Speak with the authors and purchase their books. There will be published authors of fiction, nonfiction, adult, children’s, and young adult books, plus genres and subjects galore. From 1:30 to 2:30 pm, the Children’s Section will host a “Storytime for Word Lovers” where young wordsmiths can listen to stories and create their own poems with gigantic letters. No registration is required, and all ages are welcome.
Windows to Wellness Health Fair
Keep your New Year’s resolutions going and join Recreation Services and UCHealth at the Windows to Wellness Fair from 9 am to 2 pm on Saturday, February 9, at the Senior Center, 910 Longs Peak Avenue. This annual fair boasts a variety of vendors to give you the latest information on your health and nutritional needs. Free fitness classes and workshops will take place throughout the day, and you can sign up for 10-minute sessions for $5 (cash only – please bring small bills) with alternative wellness practitioners and holistic healers. Landfill Drop Day
Longmont residents can take one level pickup load FREE of charge to the Front Range Landfill at 1830 Weld County Road 5 in Erie from 7 am to 2 pm on Saturday, February 9. Loads must be covered and secured for transport; oversized loads and second loads will be billed accordingly. Amazing Astronomy at the Ranch
Enjoy a beginner’s astronomy lecture indoors from 6:30 to 7:30 pm on Saturday, February 9, at the Sandstone Ranch Visitors & Learning Center, 3001 Sandstone Drive. Weather permitting, head outdoors afterward to view the night skies until 8:30 pm. This program is presented by the Longmont Astronomical Society, and all ages are welcome. Senior Ski Ride to Eldora on Tuesdays
Meet at the Longmont Senior Center, 910 Longs Peak Avenue, at 8:45 am on Tuesdays to get discount ski or snowshoe passes and ride an RTD bus to Eldora Mountain Resort. Ski pass vouchers and bus tickets can be purchased by cash or check only. A one-time $5 RFID lift pass is required and is payable to Eldora; bring your RFID card each week. Prices range from $10 to $89; call 303-651-8411 for details.
