Coffee with Council is This Saturday
Longmont City Council will host Coffee with Council from 9 to 10 am on Saturday, February 27, at the Peaks Care Center, 1440 Coffman Street. At this event, you can talk informally with at least two council members on any topic of your choice, and the coffee’s on us! Council members Christensen and Finley are scheduled to attend. Longmont Library Named a National Medal Award Finalist
The Longmont Public Library has been selected by the Institute of Museum and Library Services as a finalist for the 2016 National Medal Award, the highest national honor bestowed on libraries. One of only 15 libraries nationwide and the only one from Colorado, our Library was singled out for its innovative programs serving children on the autism spectrum and their families. Big Projects Open House
The public is invited to the Big Projects Open House from 4:30 to 6:30 pm on Tuesday, March 1, in the Civic Center at 350 Kimbark Street. Learn about several important planning and construction projects taking place in Longmont this year, including NextLight Broadband, Resilient St. Vrain, Envision Longmont, Sunset Street Bridge Replacement, Focus on South Main, Downtown Alleyscape and Breezeway, Southwest Underpasses, and Dickens Farm Park. City staff and project consultants will present information on each project, as well as answer your questions. Garden In A Box Sales Begins March 1
Garden In A Box, a selection of professionally designed perennial gardens that use xeric (low water) plants, offers residents a simple approach to an eye-catching yard. These affordable, do-it-yourself garden kits come with starter plants, a Plant and Care Guide, and plant by number maps. Gardens are offered in partnership with the Center for ReSource Conservation, and $25 discounts are available while supplies last. Free Shredding Event on March 4
Recycle personal documents safely and securely at this free event. Bring boxed or bagged papers to the Waste Diversion Center at 140 Martin Street between 9 am and 2 pm on Friday, March 4. Also bring ID and a copy of your most recent Longmont utility bill. This event is for residential documents only; business materials will not be accepted. Landlord Alliance: Rental Forecast
From 6:30 to 8:30 pm on Wednesday, March 10, Elevations Credit Union will present a forecast panel discussion on real estate, mortgages, renting, LLCs, and 10 things to know about converting a home from residential to rental. Watch “Outer Space Discussion” on Channel 8
In partnership with Erie High School,  St. Vrain Valley Schools and the Space Foundation, Longmont Channel 8 has produced a 90-minute panel discussion focused on space. Panelists include a former NASA astronaut, two Ball Aerospace representatives, and Col. Joseph Kittenger, USAF (Ret.) who set a world record for the longest skydive from a height of more than 19 miles, and was the first man to make a solo crossing of the Atlantic Ocean in a gas balloon.
