Longmont Library is Open
With minimal fanfare but abundant excitement, Longmont Public Library staff opened the Library doors to patrons on July 23 for the first time in four months. In order to best protect the public and staff during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Library will reopen with a limited “Grab-n-Go” operating model in place.
COVID-19 Information
If you have questions about the statewide executive order on wearing masks or other current COVID-19 guidelines, you can find information on the Boulder County Public Health website at BoulderCounty.org/families/disease/covid-19. This site provides guidance, health facts, violation reporting options, and much more.
Beware of Blue-Green Algae
Blue-green algae, also known as cyanobacteria, can grow rapidly in summer and early fall. Algal blooms can be harmful when ingested by animals and humans or during wading and other recreational contact with water. The City of Longmont doesn’t test most bodies of water but may monitor, test, or close a location if an algal bloom is reported. Staff does visually inspect Union Reservoir, the only reservoir where swimming is allowed. Swimming is never allowed at Golden Ponds, Izaak Walton Nature Area, Jim Hamm Nature Area, McIntosh Lake, Sandstone Ranch and other local lakes. Visit bit.ly/LongmontAlgaeBlooms for more information.
Free Landfill Drop Day
The City of Longmont is offering residents an opportunity to take two level pickup loads free of charge to the Front Range Landfill at 1830 Weld County Road 5 in Erie from 7 am to 4 pm on Saturday, August 1. Typically, only one load is permitted, but an exception is being made and hours extended due to the cancellation of the last drop day. Loads must be covered and secured for transport; oversize loads and additional loads will be billed accordingly. Please take a photo ID and a copy of your current utility bill to show that you are a City of Longmont customer. For more information visit bit.ly/landfill-drop-off or call 303-651-8416.
