Preparations Underway for Weekend Winter Storm
The City of Longmont is preparing for an upcoming winter storm this weekend. Snowfall predictions are for 18” – 24” or more within a 48-hour period. Snow is expected to begin late Friday night and continue through Sunday evening. City staff are monitoring this storm closely and making the necessary preparations to keep the community safe and ensure the continuity of operations of essential services. To see the latest on the storm, please consult the National Weather Service website. Celebrate Fix-A-Leak Week
Monday marks the start of the Environmental Protection Agency’s Fix-A-Leak Week! Celebrate by taking the WaterSense Challenge to detect and chase down leaks at bit.ly/fix-a-leak-challenge, and by purchasing a new water item — such as an aerator or shower head — at EfficiencyWorksStore.com (check out the 75% discount from March 17 through March 23). Final Grocery Day at River Valley Park
The final grocery day for the Longmont Youth Center’s River Valley Park, 10910 Turner Blvd., grocery distribution will be Tuesday, March 16, from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Groceries will continue at 1440 Emery St. (Mondays) and 630 S. Peck Drive (Fridays) from 3:30-5 p.m. Grocery distributions have been cancelled for both Friday, March 12, and Monday, March 15 due to the impending winter storm. If you need food assistance, please contact Kyl Caragol.

Spirit of Arbor Day Tree Sale
In honor of Colorado Arbor Day, Forestry Services will be selling a variety of trees for $50 (plus tax) this year, which is below the wholesale cost. Forestry Services is able to make trees even more affordable for residents this year thanks to contributions from Platte River Power Authority. From March 15 through April 11, residents can view details and tree options, and reserve trees online or by calling 303-651-8416.

Chick Clark Fishing Program Kickoff Cancelled Due to COVID-19
The annual Chick Clark Kids’ Fishing Program kickoff event, originally scheduled for Saturday, March 20, has been cancelled due to COVID-19. Izaak Walton Pond will still be stocked with fish by Kid’s Fishing Inc., Colorado Parks and Wildlife, and the City of Longmont prior to March 20. Get Help from Master Gardeners About Growing Vegetables
Join the Longmont Library for a free, online program from 7-8 pm on Thursday, March 18, for “Gardening Success! Growing Veggies,” where Boulder County Master Gardeners will share their knowledge about how to plan and grow a successful vegetable garden. To register, visit bit.ly/LibPrograms#veggies.

Virtual Coffee with Council Next Saturday
Longmont City Council will host Virtual Coffee with Council from 9-10 a.m. virtually on Saturday, March 20. Consider Ancient Philosophies in a Modern Context
The Library’s Deep Thoughts Philosophy Reading Group meets monthly to discuss a classic short work of philosophy or an excerpt from a longer work and explore the value it offers in modern life. The group is a partnership with CU-Boulder’s Philosophy Outreach Program and run by the graduate coordinator of the program.  Deep Thoughts meets the fourth Monday of each month from 7-8:30 pm via Zoom. Free Seeds Offered at Longmont Library
The Longmont Public Library’s Free Seed Library returns for another growing season. Beginning or master gardeners can order up to six seed packets online or by calling 303-651-8472. The library is also seeking donations of unopened, commercial seed packets no more than 5 years old. Donations can be left at the Library’s Curbside Delivery table.

Longmont Museum Summer Camp 2021
Registration is now open for the Longmont Museum’s 2021 summer camp season, with programs planned outdoors, indoors, and virtually. Camp sessions run June 7 through July 30 for children ages 3 to 16. Children can explore popular themes such as Longmont history, STEM, visual arts, outdoor skills, pop-culture, fabric arts and sewing, music and theatre, a wizard’s school, and classic arts and crafts. Need-based scholarships are available.
