Watch Longmont Public Safety Chief Mike Butlers news conference from March 20, 2015. He addresses mental health issues following two tragic events in Longmont. “We do need to change the conversation,” Butler said. “We do need to shift how we are approaching mental illness in our community.”
Public Hearing on St. Vrain Project
An environmental assessment (EA) is planned for the St. Vrain Creek Improvement Project, a long-term project to improve the St. Vrain Creek corridor from Airport Road to Boulder Creek, repair flood damage in the greenway corridor, and increase the capacity of the corridor to pass 100-year flood flows. A public hearing and NEPA (National Environmental Policy Act) scoping meeting will be held by the Longmont City Council at 7 pm on Tuesday, March 24, in the City Council Chambers at 350 Kimbark Street. An open house will precede the hearing from 4:30 to 6:45 pm at the same location. Residents can learn about the project and speak with City staff and contractors who will prepare the EA. Affordable Housing Committee Seeks Members
The City of Longmont is seeking applicants for the Affordable Housing Technical Review Group. This volunteer group reviews affordable housing proposals and makes recommendations for project funding. At least two volunteers representing any of these areas are needed: home builders/developers, real estate, banking/lending. Reception for New Airport Manager
The Longmont Airport Hangar Owners Association and the City of Longmont Airport Advisory Board invite the public to a welcome reception for new Airport Manager Dave Slayter from 5 to 7 pm on Friday, March 27, in the Elite Aviation Hangar at 229 Airport Road. Hard-to-Recycle Event This Saturday
The Longmont Waste Diversion Center at 140 Martin Street will hold a Hard-to-Recycle Event from 9 am to 1 pm on Saturday, March 28, for materials that are not accepted for curbside recycling. Materials accepted include computers, electronics, televisions, block Styrofoam, cell phones, and plastic bags. There may be a fee for certain items. Basic Handgun Safety and Shooting Course
Learn how to safely store, carry and shoot firearms in this combination of classroom and practical exercise from 8 am to 5 pm on Saturday, March 28.
