Bicycle Friendly Driving Classes
Do you ever wonder why people on bicycles ride where they do? Is it legal? How can you “safely” get around them? And as a bicyclist, is it okay to ride outside of the bike lane if there is glass, debris or a garbage can in your way? Join us for the Bicycle Friendly Driver class on June 7 or July 12 at the Longmont Senior Center, 910 Longs Peak Ave.! Let’s look at some scenarios and determine best practices to share the roads with safety and courtesy. Visit the Longmont website and search keyword “Share the Road” to register and for more information.

Changes at Button Rock Preserve
The Longmont City Council recently accepted the new Button Rock Preserve Management Plan and adopted changes to Preserve regulations. Visits to Button Rock have increased more than 1,000 percent in the last 35 years, and in order to better protect wildlife and watershed health, Council made the tough decision to restrict dogs. As of Monday, May 15, dogs and other domestic animals are no longer allowed to visit the Preserve. While this decision may be controversial, this plan was approved with more than four years of collected public input, research and opportunities for public comment. To find more information about the new management plan, visit the webpage.

Reminder: Curbside compost changes
Please remember the changes that our compost processor, A1 Organics, has put in place to create clean compost free of contamination. As of April 1, only loose yard waste and food scraps will continue to be accepted in curbside composting containers. Items that are no longer being accepted in curbside composting service include pizza boxes, cardboard, yard waste bags, paper products, compostable packaging, coffee pods (k-cups etc.), coffee filters or other materials that are not explicitly food scraps or yard waste. If collection crews observe materials other than food scraps and yard wastes, your container will not be collected and they will leave a tag on the container with instructions to remove those items and will gladly come back to empty your container once those items have been removed. Thank you for your efforts and patience in adopting these updated guidelines. Call 303-651-8416 or visit the Waste Services webpage for more information.
