Most City Facilities Closed on Friday
Longmont city government observes Veterans Day on Friday, November 11, as a holiday. The following facilities are CLOSED: Civic Center, Service Center, Library, Senior Center, Youth Center, Waste Diversion Center, and Development Services Center. The Longmont Museum and all recreation facilities will be open regular hours. 

42nd Annual Longmont Turkey Trot
Join hundreds of others at 9 am on Saturday, November 12, at Altona Middle School, 4600 Clover Basin Drive, for the annual Longmont Turkey Trot. “Strut Your Tail Feathers” and run or walk a scenic 2-mile or 10K course. Preregister by noon on November 10 for the best price. Registrations are accepted at all City of Longmont Recreation facilities and online at ow.ly/RLw9a. Race proceeds benefit the Recreation Services Youth Scholarship Fund.

Free Landfill Drop Day
The City of Longmont offers residents an opportunity to take one level pickup load free of charge to the Front Range Landfill at 1830 Weld County Road 5 in Erie from 6 am to 2 pm on Saturday, November 12. Loads must be covered and secured; oversize loads and second loads will be billed. Please take a photo ID and a copy of your current utility bill to show that you are a City of Longmont customer. Learn About Turkeys at Sandstone Ranch
How fast can turkeys run? Do they fly? Turkeys are found all along the Front Range and frequent the open space areas at the Sandstone Ranch Visitors & Learning Center, 3001 Sandstone Drive. Enjoy a scenic autumn day at the Ranch from 10:30 am to noon on Saturday, November 12, while you learn about the wild turkey through talk, crafts and play. This program for all ages is free but there is a $2 per person or $5 per family suggested donation. Register by November 10 at bit.ly/ssrevents or call 303-651-8404.

Learn About New Curbside Composting Service
Much has been reported about the City’s new voluntary curbside composting service, set to begin in spring 2017. From 7 to 8 pm on Tuesday, November 15, the Library will present “Demystifying Curbside Composting” to help you separate fact from fiction. Composting experts from the City and EcoCycle will answer questions, provide information, and describe how the new program will benefit residents, Longmont, and the environment. Watch as a Model Railroad Exhibit is Built
Visit the Longmont Public Library’s makerspace to see members of the Boulder Model Railroad Club prepare a model railroad exhibit for the club’s December Train Expo at the Boulder County Fairgrounds. They’ll be working at the library, 409 4th Avenue, from 3 to 6 pm on Monday, November 14, and from 10 am to noon on Wednesday, November 16. No registration required.

Recreation & Golf Services and the Longmont Museum offer fun and educational classes for children and teens during fall and winter school breaks. Learn about Plains Indians, build with LEGOs, explore art and space, become a spy, fence, sew, create holiday decorations or play indoor golf! Help Make a Community Quilt
Visit the Library’s Maker-in-Residence, artist Julie Benoit, and help her make a quilt that reflects our community stories. No sewing experience is necessary! Just drop in at the Library at 409 4th Avenue, and she’ll show you how to add your own touch to this beautiful work of art. No registration required. Benoit works on the quilt from 3 to 6 pm on Tuesdays, and from 1 to 3 pm on Saturdays through December.

Teach English to Adults
Intercambio Uniting Communities is looking for volunteers! Intercambio trains volunteers to teach English to adult immigrants one-on-one and in group settings in and around Longmont. NO teaching experience or Spanish language ability is necessary. There is a commitment of approximately four hours per week. Come to a volunteer information session at the Longmont or Boulder office to learn more.
