Use Deicers Responsibly

Winter brings us beautiful snowcapped mountains and slippery conditions. While deicers are helpful in keeping walkways and driveways safe, melting snow carries them through storm drains to nearby streams – without treatment – where they’re harmful to aquatic life. When using deicers, apply according to instructions as soon as icy conditions appear. Deicers help break the bond between ice and pavement to make shoveling easier. Because they do not evaporate snow and ice, adding more does not eliminate the need to shovel.
