Coffee with Council on Saturday
Longmont City Council will host Coffee with Council from 9 to 10 am on Saturday, October 20, at Firehouse Art Center, 667 4th Avenue. You can talk informally with at least two council members on any topic of your choice, and the coffee’s on us. Council members Martin and Rodriguez are scheduled to attend. Drop-in Computer Help at the Senior Center
If you’re age 50 or older and need a little technology assistance, stop by the Longmont Senior Center, 910 Longs Peak Avenue, from 9:30 am to noon on select Tuesdays to get help from a peer expert for just $2. And bring the device you need help with, be it cell phone, smartphone, tablet, or laptop. Dates are October 23, November 13, and November 27. Call 303-651-8411 with questions.
Halloween Parade and Trick or Treat Street
Dress in your Halloween costume, march down Main Street, and visit participating Downtown merchants afterward for Trick or Treat Street on Saturday, October 27. Children and adults of all ages can be part of Longmont’s annual free costume foot parade. Parade line-up begins at 9:30 am (10 am start) at Roosevelt Park, 700 Longs Peak Avenue. No registration is required, and strollers or wagons are recommended for tiny feet. No motorized vehicles. Dogs are welcome but must be leashed, and no large animals please. Pharmaceutical Take Back Event
Drugs discarded down the drain can pass through the wastewater plant and into St. Vrain Creek without treatment. Bring them instead to a free drop-off event from 8 am to 2 pm on Saturday, October 27, in the main lobby of Longmont United Hospital, 1950 Mountain View Avenue. Pills, capsules, liquids, inhalers, patches, etc. are welcomed. No needles, thermometers, controlled substances, medical equipment, personal care products, household hazardous wastes, or business wastes accepted. The Raven Mystery at Sandstone Ranch
Throughout history, the raven’s black feathers have been associated with omens and evil, but did you know that their intelligence rivals that of chimpanzees and dolphins? Learn about amazing ravens from 10:30 am to noon on Saturday, October 27, at the Sandstone Ranch Visitors & Learning Center, 3001 Sandstone Drive. Be Part of the “Jingle Bell Rock” Parade
Don’t miss the chance to showcase your organization in lights at the annual holiday parade on Saturday, December 8. All parade entries are eligible for prizes, and each winning entry will be awarded a banner to display along the route. Prizes are $100 for each of four awards and $250 for the Grand Marshal’s Award. Celebrate Día de los Muertos at the Library
Bring your friends and family to the Library at 409 4th Avenue for a bilingual celebration of Día de los Muertos/Day of the Dead from 3 to 4:30 pm on Sunday, October 28. Honor your loved ones who have passed on with a festival of dancing, food, crafts, and more. No registration is required, and this is a
family-friendly event.
Spooky Shrub & Ghoulish Grass Planting
From 1 to 4 pm on Wednesday, October 31, celebrate fall by planting native shrubs and grasses along the northwest bank of McIntosh Lake. Snacks will be provided, and costumes are welcomed. Visit bit.ly/post-volunteer to register.
Bag Your Leaves for Curbside Collection
From October 29 through November 23 the City of Longmont offers residents free curbside collection of bagged leaves. Your leaves must be bagged in paper or plastic and placed curbside by 7 am on the Monday of your scheduled collection week. Public Safety Intern Positions Available
Longmont Police and Fire are accepting applications for college interns. This program lets college students interested in a career in law enforcement or the fire service work in partnership with the department in uniformed positions.
