West Nile Still a Threat; Practice the ‘4 Ds’
Four out of five Colorado West Nile Virus cases are in our region, and traps are finding historically high numbers of Culex mosquitoes. The City has implemented its integrated mosquito management plan, including spraying local neighborhoods, and is strongly encouraging residents to practice the “4 Ds”:
- Use Deet or an alternative repellent;
- Dress in long sleeves and pants;
- Avoid outdoor activities between dusk until dawn;
- Drain standing water in your yard, i.e. birdbaths, outdoor planter, tires stored outside, etc.

Updates Proposed to Utility Rates
The Longmont City Council is considering an update to Longmont’s electric and storm drainage rates in order to continue providing reliable, high-quality service to the community. This would affect electric rates for 2022-23 and storm drainage rates for 2022-24, with a typical residential customer in 2022 paying an additional $1.79/month in electric rates and an added $1.85/month for storm drainage. Longmont CAReS participants would also get greater rebates, including the City’s first-ever rebate for storm drainage. The measure is currently set for a Sept. 14 first reading vote by the Council; if approved, a final vote would come in October. Find more information at LongmontColorado.gov/RateChanges.

The chest, commissioned by the City’s Art in Public Places program, will remain sealed for 100 years.
