Resilient Together Project: Neighborhood Cooling and Community Building

A park is seen with green grass and leafy green trees.

Overview

Resilient Together is a project created to help Longmont neighborhoods stay cooler during hot weather. It focuses on the areas most affected by extreme heat – Lanyon, Spangler, and Kensington Neighborhoods.

The project was shaped by ideas and feedback from the people who live there, through a citywide Heat Watch campaign. Based on what residents said they wanted, added features will include splash pads, misters, shade, swings, and gathering areas to neighborhood parks to make them more comfortable and welcoming.

Resilient Together is funded by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), Boulder County’s Sustainability Tax, GOCO, and Longmont’s Parks Capital Fund.

As part of the Resilient Together Project, a misting feature and seating area will be installed at Lanyon Park to help residents stay cool, connect, and enjoy the outdoors – even on hot days.

This map shows on overview of Lanyon park, with some new seating added in the top third of the map, a misted just below that, an existing playground on left side of the map, and an existing shade shelter at the bottom of the map.

Design phase has started. Construction is anticipated to begin in spring of 2025 and to be completed before the end of 2025.
