Fire Investigators / City of Longmont
Arson and fire investigators can have a wide range of duties. On the scene, they may collect evidence, identify any potential accelerants, and work towards determining the cause(s) of a fire. They may also interview witnesses, assist in the identification of offenders in cases of arson, and arrest suspects.
Longmont Fire has nine fire staff with fire investigator collateral duties.
Generally, our fire investigators investigate the following types of incidents:
- Property Fires. Investigators work to determine the cause which could include faulty wiring, a gas leak, or a defective appliance. The cause of a fire can result from a multitude of causes.
- Vehicle Fires. Generally, the cause of vehicle fires involve determining what source caused the damage to include recalls, maintenance issues, electrical shorts or overloads. Sometimes investigators are called to vehicle accidents as well as arson.
- Outdoor/Vegetation Fires. Our wildland fire investigators work to determine the probable and possible cause of a fire in an open and sometimes expansive outdoor area.
