STEPS Integrated Citywide Smart Camera System
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is the purpose of the citywide camera system? Currently, the city operates several independent camera networks to meet various operational needs such as surveillance, traffic management, water flows, and public safety. Each network is managed separately with different goals, standards, technical configurations.  However, a lack of centralized management and coordination limits the City’s ability to govern camera network applications and use, and often leads to redundancy, duplication of services, and inefficiencies in staff time and camera coverage. Integrating the multiple independent existing camera into one system aims to reduce redundancy, streamline camera management roles and responsibilities, standardize video data access and controls, and facilitate integration with other smart city technologies.
How will the cameras enhance quality of life? The cameras will enhance quality of life by improving public safety, reducing crime rates, and enabling quicker emergency responses. Additionally, the data collected can be used to optimize traffic flow, enhance urban planning, and ensure better management of public spaces, contributing to a safer and more efficient city environment.
Will the camera system be integrated with other city management platforms? Yes, the camera system will be integrated with current and future city management platforms, ensuring seamless data sharing and coordination across various city departments and services.
