Human Services Assessment Results - 2016

Every year the City of Longmont government provides grants to local organizations that offer critical human services to help people living here in Longmont have a better life.  In 2016, the City contracted with a research company, Corona Insights, to conduct a comprehensive assessment that will help the City understand the current and future needs for services; the level of unmet need; and, following community input sessions, will help establish priorities for how the City allocates annual funding to human service agencies over the next few years.

Corona Insights compiled a final report, which integrates data from a variety of sources including an environmental scan (review of existing studies, interviews with some human service agencies, and analysis of demographic and other secondary data), a mail survey of residents with a supplementary intercept survey of homeless residents, results from a recent community-wide satisfaction survey, and interviews with designated human service providers.

Landlord Survey Results – October 2017

In 2016, the City of Longmont commissioned a study to evaluate the housing and human service needs in Longmont and whether adequate resources were being directed towards those needs. The 2016 study indicated that one of the highest priority needs in our community was availability of affordable rental housing stock and the inability of tenants to earn sufficient income to hold on to their housing. Based on the results of the 2016 study, the City decided to allocate a greater portion of its human service funding toward services that can assist Longmont residents who are struggling to retain their housing, at-risk of losing their housing, and/or who have temporarily lost their housing and need assistance to return to stable housing.
    
In late summer 2017, staff gathered additional information to help determine how to best invest City resources to address these housing issues. Staff interviewed local service providers who work with low to moderate income clients to learn why some of their clients were at risk for eviction or non-renewal of leases, and what might be done to prevent housing emergencies. Staff also surveyed landlords in Longmont to determine the issues they are facing and whether their assessment regarding housing loss and remedies mirrors those indicated by our service providers. A survey monkey was created and sent to the list of landlords that has been compiled over the years by the City of Longmont Office of Community and Neighborhood Resources.  

The following document contains the results of the 2017 landlord survey. These results were instrumental in developing a Request for Proposals for entities interested in providing housing stabilization services (case management, financial assistance, and other resources) to Longmont residents.
