October 15, 2026 – The 21st Avenue railroad crossing is now open to through traffic and is expected to remain open until approximately November 17. It will then close again for approximately three weeks to complete the final safety improvements. The City will provide the exact closure dates when they are confirmed.

Crews will continue to perform occasional short-term work at the crossing while it remains open. Drivers may encounter flaggers directing traffic through the work area.

The sidewalk on the north side of the crossing remains closed. People walking or bicycling must use a designated crosswalk to reach the south side of 21st Avenue before crossing the railroad tracks. Please follow all posted signs and do not enter the closed sidewalk area.

When the crossing closes again around November 17, vehicles will not be able to cross the railroad tracks at 21st Avenue. Drivers must follow the designated detour using Collyer Street, 17th Avenue and Alpine Street.

Note: The entrance to the Villas at Park Crest is not an outlet and does not provide an alternate route around the closure. Drivers should not pass the posted detour signs and enter the Villas at Park Crest driveway to turn around. Please follow the designated detour before reaching the closed crossing.
