55+ Job Fair at the Senior Center

Come to the Longmont Senior Center (910 Longs Peak Avenue) for a free 55+ Job Fair on Tuesday, September 15, between 11 am and 2 pm. This is a great opportunity to meet with local employers who are ready to hire. Workforce Boulder County staff will be available to help with your resume questions, registration into Connecting Colorado, and job search strategies. There will also be a drop-in job support workshop at noon.

Longmont Museum’s 3rd Annual Sunset Soirée

Join your friends and neighbors as they celebrate and raise support for the Longmont Museum at the 3rd Annual Sunset Soirée gala. As the sun sets over Longs Peak, you’ll enjoy an open bar with signature cocktails, a three-course meal, and live musical journey through time with Dave Devine & Friends. All funds raised will go toward supporting the Museum’s new permanent history gallery.

Guests are invited to come dressed from their favorite decade in Longmont’s history. With a visit from Doc Brown and a real DeLorean, this journey through “The Future of History” is sure to be a night to remember. Tickets are on sale now, but hurry, space is limited and ticket sales close September 7.

Callahan ArtWalk Open House

Callahan House, built in 1892, is a historically designated home given to the City of Longmont in 1938 by honest and skillful merchants, Thomas and Alice Callahan. You can enjoy a free, self-guided tour of the historic Callahan House during ArtWalk on Saturday, Sept. 12. Local artists will sell their work in the house and gardens.

You Can Become a Savvy Caregiver

Will you be taking care of a loved one with early- or mid-stage dementia? This free Savvy Caregiver course at the Senior Center teaches an understanding of dementia and strives to increase caregiver confidence while reducing the adverse effects of caregiving. It focuses on helping caregivers to acquire and strengthen their knowledge, skills and attitudes for this role and teaches caregivers how to manage and care for themselves.

The six-week course is led by Jessica O’Leary, MA, CVW, a gerontologist and specialist in dementia. Please note that this course is for those taking care of a loved one and not for professional caregivers; it is also for caregivers of those with early- or mid-stage dementia. Attendance at all classes is required, and class size is limited.

A: Yes. Longmont City government will observe Labor Day on Monday, September 7, 2026. While most City facilities will be closed, emergency services, parks, outside recreation areas, etc. will be open.

It’s been a hot summer. But other places have had it worse. This is nothing new. The following appears in the June 16, 1899 Longmont Ledger:

“New York City is suffering more than usual this time of year, with the heat. For those who are seeking more comfortable places during the heated term, we offer the little city of Longmont. The great number of our trees make this one of the coolest towns in the state.”

You can find this section in the upper left corner of page two of the 6/16/1899 paper, right above the news that “the voting machine is coming.”
