Pace Street Paving Oct. 27-30 Expect Major Traffic Delays and Intersection Closures
The City of Longmont will begin repaving Pace Street between 9th Avenue and Mountain View Avenue on Tuesday, Oct. 27. Work is expected to continue through Friday, Oct. 30, weather permitting. There will be significant traffic delays and temporary intersection closures during the three-day period.
Crews will pave the southbound, northbound and center lanes in three phases, shifting traffic as work progresses.
Traffic Impacts and Detours
Pace Street will remain open with one lane of traffic in each direction throughout paving, but motorists should expect significant delays while the paving equipment passes through and traffic control switches.
As crews pave through the intersections at 9th Avenue and Mountain View Avenue, east-west through traffic will be temporarily closed for several hours at a time. Only one intersection will be closed at a time, so either 9th Avenue or Mountain View Avenue will remain available for east-west travel, but timing of the closures will be variable throughout the day.
Turning movements at all intersections, including driveway entrances, will be restricted depending on where crews are working. Drivers should follow posted detour signs and directions from traffic control flaggers.
Motorists who do not need local access are strongly encouraged to avoid Pace Street during paving operations. Alternate routes include Alpine Drive, with connections to 17th Avenue and 3rd Avenue, as well as Deerwood Drive to 17th Avenue and County Line Rd.
The intersections will reopen as soon as paving operations allow. Construction schedules are weather dependent and subject to change.
The paving work is part of the City’s Pace Street Improvements Project, which includes roadway, bicycle, pedestrian and drainage improvements between 9th and 17th avenues.
More information about the project schedule and traffic impacts can be found on the Pace Street Improvements Project webpage. Questions or concerns should be directed to the project hotline at 720-442-8395 or PaceStreet@longmontcolorado.gov.
