City Council Open Forum: May 30
The Longmont City Council will hold an Open Forum on Tuesday, May 30, in place of the regular City Council meeting. At this forum, members of the public may speak to Council for 5 minutes on any topic. The forum will begin at 7 pm in the City Council Chambers, Civic Center, 350 Kimbark St. If you would like to speak, plan to come early to put your name on the speakers list. Holiday schedules for City facilities
Most City facilities will be closed today, May 29, in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. Trash, recycling and compost will be collected one day later throughout the week. Most Recreation facilities including Sunset Pool and Union Reservoir will be open. Find schedules at the Longmont website.
Sustainability Explained: Heat & Air Quality
Summer in Colorado means soaring temperatures and poor air quality. Free Fitness in the Park
Enjoy a 9 am morning workout in the fresh air! Join Recreation fitness instructors for free outdoor fitness classes this summer. Free Friday classes at various parks from June 2 through Aug. 11 include Zumba, Boot Camp, Barre, Pilyoga and Tai Chi. Every 1st and 3rd Saturday June – August, Pilyoga is offered at Lanyon Park, 1900 Collyer St. For ages 14 years and older; no childcare is available. Downtown Summer Concerts begin June 2!
Beginning June 2, the Downtown Summer Concerts return to 4th Avenue and Kimbark Street from 6-9 pm. Head downtown for the free street concerts featuring live music, kids activities, local food trucks, craft beverages and fun for the whole family! This year’s lineup will feature Head for the Hills, Roka Hueka, Funkiphino, Last Men on Earth, and other talented artists. Bicycle Friendly Driver class
Do you ever wonder why people on bicycles ride where they do? Is it legal? How can you “safely” get around them? Join us for the Bicycle Friendly Driver class on June 7 or July 12 at the Longmont Senior Center, 910 Longs Peak Ave.! Let’s look at some scenarios and determine best practices to share the roads with safety and courtesy. Museum’s “agriCULTURE” exhibit opening
“agricCULTURE: Art Inspired by the Land” is a multi-venue exhibit collaboratively created by the Longmont Museum and the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art. Join us in the Longmont Museum’s outdoor courtyard on Friday, June 9 from 6–8 pm for a celebratory opening reception featuring square dancing with the Small Wonder String Band! Be the first to see this new exhibit and enjoy complimentary appetizers and a cash bar. Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for students/seniors, and free for members. Book launch party at the Library
Join the Longmont Librarians for a special event with author-illustrator Kaz Windness and local indie bookstore, The Wandering Jellyfish Bookshop! Kaz will celebrate the release of and read her new picture book, Bitsy Bat, School Star from 11 am-noon on Saturday, June 10 in the Library Meeting Rooms. Time for outdoor swim season!
Enjoy fun in the sun at Longmont’s Sunset Pool and parks this summer. Sunset Pool, 1900 Longs Peak Ave., opens today with pre-summer hours and limited amenities. A heated outdoor pool designed for the entire family, Sunset Pool features six lap lanes, a large wading area, three diving boards and two fast and fun water slides. Purchase your summer swim pass online: Spend less time in line and save money! As the summer fun season approaches, purchase a 20-visit, 30-day, or 3-month pass for Recreation Services online. Passes are good for admittance at the St Vrain Memorial Building, the Longmont Recreation Center, Centennial Pool, and the seasonal outdoor Sunset Pool. The splash pads at Stephen Day Park, 1340 Deerwood Drive, and Sandstone Ranch Park, 3001 E. Hwy 119, are turned on beginning Saturday, May 27. Splash pads are open from 8 am-8 pm daily.
The Union Reservoir swim beach, 461 County Road 26, opens for the season on Saturday, May 27. Regular park entrance fees apply. Learn more at the Union Reservoir webpage.
New! – Open Board Game Nights at Library
Bring your board games to the Longmont Library and play with other players from 6- 7:30 pm every Wednesday in the Unquiet Study Area upstairs! The Library will have games available to check out through our board game collection or patrons are welcome to bring their own to play.
