Summer may be winding down, but there’s still time to enjoy Union Reservoir for boating, fishing, picnicking and dog swimming. Fall hours begin Sept. 1: 6 am-8 pm daily.

Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 7, is the last day of the $15 weekend and holiday vehicle rate. Beginning Sept. 8, the daily rate is $10 until Memorial Day weekend 2027.

Kids Creative Workshop with Lulu Buck

Help welcome educator and author Lulu Buck to the Library for a free creative

workshop for 1st–5th graders. Lulu will read her picture books “Sue’s Sky” and “The Boy with the Black Heart.” After storytime, children can create their own watercolors inspired by the books. No registration is required for this free event.

Council Recap

On Tuesday, August 25, Council had a Regular Session where they discussed:

Trialing a new short-term rental license type for major regional events,
Referring an increase of the city sales and use tax rate concerning funding for public safety to a vote of the qualified electors,
A code of ethics complaint, and more.

Next Meeting

On Tuesday, September 1, Council will have a Study Session, focused on the 2027 budget.

Recreation Center Closure

Every year, the City’s recreation facilities close for maintenance. The Longmont Recreation Center (the entire facility) at 310 Quail Road, will be closed August 30-September 6. The swimming pools are currently closed through

September 18 to install a leisure pool play area.

Q: Wasps just built a nest near my electric meter! It’s hard for me to get at because it’s in a lamppost in front of my house – how do I get rid of the thing?

A: Those Narnia-style lampposts are called pedestal lights and they’re designed to hold our electric meters. They’re not designed to host a wasp family, but nobody told them, so nests do turn up sometimes.

Do NOT try to spray a wasp’s nest that’s in a pedestal light! Most wasp sprays are not rated for electrical equipment, so a quick spray can give you a dangerous or even deadly zap. Instead, call Longmont Power & Communications at 303-651-8386 so they can evict your unwanted guests.
