Volunteer with Your Friends at Parks, Open Space & Trails

Love the outdoors? Got a free Thursday afternoon? Why not volunteer to do some trail work on Professor’s Ranch Trail at Button Rock Preserve? The beautiful route into the project is steep in some spots, but less than a mile; you can take the hike as slow as needed. Be prepared for digging, scraping, kneeling, rock work and some heavy lifting if you are able.

There are Thursday 3-7:30 pm options on both August 13 and August 27 for everyone 18 and older. If that time or age requirement don’t work for you, there are many other opportunities, too. Explore the Parks, Open Space & Trails Volunteer page.

End of Summer Dog Swim

Celebrate summer by bringing your socialized dog to one of Longmont’s activity pools for swimming and fun. After the pools close for the season, the chemicals are neutralized so the water is safe for dogs, then all friendly pooches are welcome.

The fee is $5 per dog; recreation passes are not valid. No people swimming please! Questions? Call 303-774-4700.

Recreation Facility Maintenance Closures

Every year, the City’s recreation facilities close for maintenance. The St. Vrain Memorial Building, 700 Longs Peak Ave., will be closed August 10-15. The Longmont Recreation Center swimming pools, 310 Quail Road, will close August 10-September 18 to install a new leisure pool play feature. The closure includes the lap pool, leisure pool, lazy river and hot tub. The steam room, sauna and everything else remain open, and Centennial and Sunset Pools will expand swim hours. Changes at the Development Services Center

Beginning Sept. 2, the Development Services Center (385 Kimbark St.) will open at 11 am on Wednesdays, giving staff dedicated time to process permits and respond to inquiries. Hours: 8 am–5 pm, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and 11 am–5 pm, Wednesday. Building Services also recently launched a new phone system to improve customer service. Tickets on Sale for Museum’s Summer Soirée

Tickets are on sale now for the Longmont Museum’s 3rd Annual Sunset Soirée gala, Friday, Sept. 11 at 6 pm. As the sun sets over Longs Peak, enjoy an open bar with signature cocktails, a three-course meal, and live music. Funds go toward supporting the Museum expansion, including a new history gallery. Q: What is the City doing to save water this year?

A: Quite a bit! Using new metering technology, City crews have found and fixed more than 40 leaks at parks this year, saving an estimated 4 million gallons of water. Sprinkler systems at City parks have also been adjusted to use 10% less water, and departments meet regularly to make sure we stay on track with the citywide 10% reduction goal.

While there are no mandatory restrictions on residential properties right now, what you do this summer matters. Conserving now is the best way to protect next year’s supply and avoid stricter measures later. Learn more about how you can conserve water.
